The population of London is estimated at 7.5 million (2005 census) and a metropolitan area population of between 12 and 14 million. This makes it the most populous city in the European Union.
London is an international transport centre due to its geographical position. As a city with ancient history and many attractions it is one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations. Buckingham Palace, the House of Parliament, Tower Bridge, London Eye and many others became synonyms of iconic British landmarks.
