Republic of Bulgaria is a country in Southeastern Europe. Bulgaria shares border with Republic of Macedonia and Serbia on west; River Danube is its border with Romania on north; Greece and Turkey are its south neighbours and east of Bulgaria is located Black sea.
The climate of Bulgaria is temperate with dry, hot summers and temperatures reaching up to +35C and with dump, cold winters with temperatures varying between +5C and -15C.
The Bulgarian landscape is mostly upland in its southwest part. The capital, Sofia, is located in its western part, in the foot of Votosha Mountain. South of Vitosha is Rila Mountain where the highest peak of the Balkan Peninsula – Musala (2925 metres ;9,596 ft) – could be found. Rila is also famous for its beautiful lakes, located high in the mountain. Further on south is Pirin Mountain. On the east of Rila an Pirin is Rodopa Mountain which is lower but more extensive. The Balkan Mountain crosses the country throughout its centre from west to east.
The deepest and widest river in Bulgaria is Danube, its northern border. There are a few other main rivers – Maritsa and Tundja in the south and Iskar and Yantra in the north. Mineral springs with varying water ingredients and temperature could be found throughout the country.
